MUMFit
MUMFit is a face-to-face group which was set up in March 2022. It is a fitness session focused on Mums, Mums-to-be and Grandmas. They can bring their grandchildren, children and babies of any age along and exercise.
We do a group warm-up to ensure everyone is ready for the sessions. Then there is a physical challenge, whether it be a circuit or a partner workout which the Mum's can work their way through at their own pace. I provide some free-weights for the ladies and toys and books for the babies too. Meanwhile, I walk around the room coaching good form, encouraging another set, talking about pelvic floor exercises, birth stories and looking after any babies who are fretful or need some attention. This enables Mum to just crack on. This is unique, safe and confidential environment where the ladies can share knowledge, stories and laugh and cry together over life’s experiences, with some exercise thrown in.
Some of the ladies who already attend MUMFit refer to it as a 'Sisterhood' and many of them meet outside of the session for play-dates and coffees. It is very community focused and many of the women who attend had their babies in lockdown, so have felt extremely isolated and have been unable to attend any face to face groups until this one. This has made it all the more special and necessary for these Mums.
